Flames hold off Wolf Pack

Monica Valenzuela racked up 28 points as the Flames improved to 2-1 in the TCAL with a 67-56 win at West on Thursday in Tracy. Alexa Brand added 12 points despite sitting in the second half with a knee bruise.

“Alexa Brand hurt her knee in the first half, and we didn’t play her in the second half,” Lodi coach Brandon Shea said. “I don’t think it’s anything serious. We were just being overly cautious on our end.”

Zoe Faulkner added nine points, Alaina Gravenkamp and Aiyana Evans had six each and Marissa Fabian and Ellie Van Tassell had two each.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Lodi, but a leak in the roof at the Inferno moved the game to the road.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Varsity Elliot 84, Big Valley 33

Jalen Valverde scored a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in Thursday’s blowout win, with Jimmy Beltz dropping 15 points. Cody Doell added 13 points ad seven boards, Nate Bond had 12 points and eight rebounds, Onkar Sidhu had nine points, Zach Vangroning­en had eight, Omarie Jacobs had seven and Spencer Sani had six.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Varsity Big Valley 43, Elliot 25

Charis Guerzo led the Eagles with 12 points in Thursday’s loss, and Joanne Butler brought down eight rebounds (and scored three) against a much taller team. Sophia Butler added four points, while Tayton McCorstin and Kinsey Archer each scored three. Frosh-soph

Lodi 46, West 38, OT

Ashley Vasquez scored eight of her 15 points in the fourth quarter as the Flames (16-3, 2-1 TCAL) rallied and then outscored West 10-2 in the overtime period.

Maddy Ridgway added 13 points, Shelby Yarbrough had 10, Calista Morita had eight and Isabella Fugazi had two. Morita added eight steals, and Ridgway had 10 rebounds and six blocks. Freshmen

Ashley Toy led the Flames with 18 points, adding four rebounds and three steals in Thursday’s loss.

Anaka Roman added six point, two boards and two steals and Patricia Carro had four point, nine rebounds and two steals.

BOYS SOCCER

Varsity Tokay 1, Lincoln 0

Alfonso Ochoa scored about 35 minutes in off an assist by Bryan Osornio, and Joel Luis blocked four shots to preserve the shutout for the Tigers (4-2-2, 2-0-1 TCAL).

The back line of Alejandro Andrade, Luis Plaza, Diego Hernandez and Nicholas Monteon were instrument­al in the win.

West 2, Lodi 1

The Flames fell to 1-2 in TCAL play and 3-5 overall in Thursday’s game, which was a scoreless tie at halftime.

Christian Ochoa scored for Lodi on an assist from Luis Sandoval. Cesar Calderon, Adrian Vargas and Andrew Clemons played well for Lodi, while Hugo Solis blocked six shots in goal. Frosh-soph

Tokay 3, Lincoln 2

The Tigers trailed 2-0 after just six minutes of play, but a three-goal flurry late in the game kept them undefeated.

Sebastian Quiroz, Eduardo Guillen and Jordan Baumback scored off assists by Jose Gonzalez, Cristian Garcia and Guillen, with Baumback’s striked off Guillen’s pass coming in the last minute to play.

Christian Valencia had three saves and Miguel Cervantes had two for Tokay (8-0, 3-0 TCAL), while Omar Ramirez, Edwin Flores, Quiroz and Baumback all played outstandin­g games.

West 2, Lodi 1

Mark O’Hannigan scored on a Sam Eigenberge­r assist in Thurday’s loss, with solid play from Danny Maldonado, Tyler Freeman and Edgar Lopez.
