Third-ranked Maryland women pull away from Michigan

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Brionna Jones had 25 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 3 Maryland pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Michigan 83-70 Thursday night for its sixth straight victory.

It was the ninth straight double-double for Jones and 13th for the season. The 6foot-4 senior made 12 of 16 shots and helped the Terrapins (18-1, 6-0 Big Ten) finish with a 43-33 rebounding advantage.

• No. 4 Mississipp­i St. 67, Alabama 54 — At Tuscaloosa, Ala.: Chinwe Okorie had 15 points and eight rebounds to helpMissis­sippi State remain unbeaten.

The Bulldogs (20-0, 6-0 Southeaste­rn Conference) turned a single-digit halftime lead into a lopsided margin with a 14-0 run in the third quarter. Mississipp­i State outscored Alabama (14-5, 2-4) 26-9 in the quarter while forcing 11 turnovers.

• No. 5 South Carolina 65, Mississipp­i 46 — At Columbia, S.C.: Alaina Coates had 15 points and 15 rebounds for her 54th career double-double, and All-America forward A’ja Wilson returned from a sprained ankle as South Carolina remained perfect in Southeaste­rn Conference play.

The 6-foot-5 Wilson missed the previous two games after hurting her right ankle at Florida on Jan. 8. The Gamecocks’ leading scorer got a huge cheer when she was announced in the starting lineup and played fluidly in 15 minutes of action, with six points and four rebounds.

• No. 6 Notre Dame 80, Boston College 69 — At Boston: Marina Mabrey scored 21 points, Brianna Turner had 19 and sixthranke­d Notre Dame bounced back from a loss earlier this week.

The Fighting Irish (17-3, 5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) picked up the tempo at the start of the second half, turning an eight-point lead to 5437 in the opening 2 1/2 minutes.

• No. 7 Florida St. 77, Syracuse 58 — At Tallahasse­e, Fla.: Shakayla Thomas scored 10 of her 17 points during the decisive first quarter, and Florida State cruised past Syracuse.

The Seminoles (18-2, 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) hit 11 of their first 14 from the field, including nine straight during one stretch, as they built a 26-5 lead with 2:35 remaining in the first quarter. The Orange (13-7, 4-3) made their first two shots and then missed their next 10 as FSU went on an 18-0 run.

• No. 15 Duke 84, No. 17 Virginia Tech 59 — At Durham, N.C.: Lexie Brown was 10 of 16 from the field and scored 29 points to help Duke beat Virginia Tech.

• No. 16 Ohio St. 70, Wisconsin 61 — At Columbus, Ohio: Kelsey Mitchell scored 24 points and Ohio State held off Wisconsin.

The Buckeyes led the Badgers by just a point at halftime. Wisconsin’s Kendall Shaw made two free throws to start the third quarter before Ohio State answered with eight points to take the lead for good, outscoring the Badgers 29-11 in the third quarter.

• Missouri 78, No. 25 Texas A&M 76, OT — At Columbia, Mo.: Sophie Cunningham had eight of her 36 points in overtime and Missouri scored 22 points in the extra period to pull out the win.

Men

• No. 3 UCLA 201, Arizona St. 80 — At Los Angeles: Isaac Hamilton scored 33 points, hitting a career-high nine 3-pointers, and No. 3 UCLA routed Arizona State 102-80 on Thursday night to improve to 11-0 at home.

The Bruins (19-1, 6-1 Pac12) made 16 3-pointers and shot 60 percent from the field.

• No. 4 Gonzaga 88, Santa Clara 57 — At Santa Clara: Przemek Karnowski scored 19 points on just seven shots from the field and Gonzaga remained the only undefeated team in Division I.

Karnowski made six shots against the undersized Broncos and added seven more points from the line to help the Bulldogs (18-0, 6-0 West Coast Conference) extend the best start in school history with another lopsided win.

• No. 12 Louisville 92, Clemson 60 — At Louisville, Ky.: Deng Adel scored 18 points to match a career high and Donovan Mitchell scored 18 in the first half as Louisville closed on a 10-0 run.

• No. 14 Arizona 73, Southern Cal 66 — At Los Angeles: Lauri Markkanen scored 23 points, including a rainbow 3-pointer with 33 seconds left, and Arizona held on late.

The Wildcats (17-2, 6-0 Pac12) won their 12th consecutiv­e game but had to hold on to the end as USC rallied from a 23-point deficit over the final 15 minutes.

• No. 23 Saint Mary’s 62, Pacific 50 — At Moraga: Calvin Hermanson scored seven of his 17 points as part of a big run in the second half for Saint Mary’s.

Jock Landale added 10 points and 10 rebounds while Joe Rahon had nine points and nine assists for Saint Mary’s, which has won 10 of 11.

• No. 25 Maryland 84, Iowa 76 — At Iowa City, Iowa: Melo Trimble scored 20 points and Maryland rallied after blowing a 15-point lead for its fourth straight victory.

• Montana St. 74, Sacramento St. 65 — At Sacramento: Harald Frey had 22 points and made 5 of 7 from 3-point range to help Montana State beat Sacramento State 74-65 on Thursday night.

Tyler Hall made 2 of 4 from long distance and added 17 points for the Bobcats (812, 3-4 Big Sky Conference).
