SANDRA VANCE NEWMAN
1946 – 2017
Sandra Vance Newman passed away on January 12, 2017 after a long illness. Sandy was born on July 2nd 1946 in Stockton, Ca. Her parents Jim and Virginia Newman were long time Lodi residents. Sandy grew up in Lodi and attended Lodi High School, graduating with the class of 1964.
She had a great childhood where she was raised with three siblings Marty, Jamie and Rich. She loved spending her early years playing tennis, swimming, volleyball, water skiing, horseback riding and spending time in her garden. One of Sandra’s greatest adventures was a 6 week cruise to Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong and Hawaii aboard the SS President Wilson Luxury Liner in 1961 with her grandmother Mabel Harris Newman.
She married Robert Short in 1969 and moved to Sacramento where she was employed by Pacific Bell. She would eventually leave that job to stay at home and raise her children ( Julie and Scott) in Lodi. One of her happiest moments in life was being able to be in the room when her first grandchild (Riley) was born in 2003.
Sandra was a kind, caring and compassionate woman who always looked for the good in everyone. She will be remembered for her love and concern for this earth and the animals on it.
She is survived by her daughter Julie Short Coleman and her husband Derek Coleman and granddaughter Riley, of Folsom CA, son Scott Short of San Andreas, CA, sister Marty Ramsey of Tucson, AZ, sister Jamie Brown of Lodi, CA and brother Rich Newman of Mesa, AZ.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Animal Friends Connection Humane Society of Lodi Ca (209) 365-0535.
