ERVIN (ERV) HOFFMAN

Ervin (Erv) Hoffman of Lodi passed away on January 25, 2017 at the age of 94. Born in Bowdle, South Dakota on June 2, 1922 to Adolph and Christina Hoffman, who migrated from Russia with a German heritage.

He married Wilma Voegele of Roscoe and started farming until being drafted in 1944 into the 544th Amphibious Engineers mostly in the Pacific waiting to hit the beaches off Japan. When the war ended, his was the first troop to enter Nagaski. After he was honorably discharged at Fort Lewis, Washington, he returned to South Dakota in October of 1946, and joined the Carpenter’s Union. He followed large constructi­on projects across the United States making his way to Lodi, in 1950, where he started his own constructi­on company.

In 2014, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wilma. In retirement they had spent winters in Palm Springs where he was a Marshall at the Bob Hope Desert Classic. They also traveled across the United States from Alaska to New York in their travel trailer.

He is survived by his son Dean (Stella) Hoffman of Acampo, grandchild­ren Craig (Beth) of Lodi, Pat (Tammy) Hoffman of Chico, great grandchild­ren Colin, Avery and Zane, his son Jerry (Diane) Hoffman of Acampo, grandchild­ren Lori (Alex) Worden of Walnut Creek and great grand Rayne. Ervin is also survived by grandson Chris Hoffman of Lodi.

Erv was the ultimate handyman and the last of the greatest generation.

Services for Wilma and Ervin will be in Dixon at the Veterans Cemetery this summer.
