Bokisch Vineyards was at its best during the recent San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

The local winery scored big with four medals, with its two flagship wines, Albariño and Tempranillo, receiving Best of Class awards. Bokich’s Garnacha won gold and its new Tizona by Bokisch Zinfandel received a silver. The 2014 reds are the first vintage produced in Bokisch’s new winery located at their Terra Alta Vineyard under the direction of winemaker Elyse Perry.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the wine competition is the largest wine contest in the world consisting of only American wines.

Markus and Liz Bokisch first purchased Lodi vineyard property in 1995 and produced their first wine in 1999. Since 2001, they have released Iberian varietal wines under their Bokisch Vineyards label. Presently, the Bokisch Vineyards label carries 10 Iberian varietal wines and one red wine blend: five white varietal wines, a rosé, four red varietal wines, and a red wine blend.

In 2015 the winery introduced a new label, Tizona, which now carries three wines: Old Vine Zinfandel; Malbec; Late Harvest Graciano.

Bokisch Vineyards winery is located at 18921 Atkins Road in Lodi. The winery produces about 5,000 cases of wine per year.
