Free speech should be for everyone
Editor: I think America is going down a slippery slope of liberal fascism. I fear writing this letter because of the hate and threat of violence I may receive by voicing my opinions.
Liberalism once proudly supported free speech but now seeks to smother it. I wrote a letter in December that pointed out entertainers were bullied, shamed and had their lives threatened if they agreed to perform for the presidential inauguration. Liberals control a vast majority of media, schools and have a totalitarian stranglehold on language and culture.
If one states that marriage is between a man and woman, people should have to present a picture ID to vote, illegal immigration is a concern and building a wall is one of many solutions or aborting a baby is wrong ... then you are a bigot, racist and homophobic according to Hollywood and the liberal establishment.
If you have these views you are their enemy. Evidence of this can be seen from an incident that happened in Davis this January involving a man who holds these views. Milo Yiannopoulos was invited to speak at UC Davis to promote free speech by the Young Republicans. He is a conservative gay man who enthusiastically supported Trump. He claimed that Trump was very kind to the gay community and supported free speech by opposing political correctness.
Unfortunately, vicious militant crowds from Davis who absurdly compared Hitler to Trump forced Milo to suddenly cancel the speech by using violent behavior. Policemen were attacked as well as ticketholders who were waiting in line. This kind of liberal who falsely labels conservatives as racists and homophobic is only engaging in an attempt to stifle free speech.
I hope I am still alive one year from now and not killed by someone who wants to silence my speech. This kind of fear was generated in Germany under Hitler’s reign. The liberal demand for Americans to conform to their ideology and willing to use violence to achieve their ends is frightening. It is this behavior that American’s should not tolerate. Free speech should be for everyone without fear. DARRELL BAUMBACH Lodi
