No. 3 Kansas holds off in-state rival Wildcats

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Frank Mason III had 21 points, Josh Jackson added 18 despite dealing with foul trouble, and No. 3 Kansas bounced back from a rare home loss to hold off Kansas State 74-71 on Monday night.

The Jayhawks (21-3, 9-2 Big 12) beat the Wildcats (16-8, 56) for the fifth straight time and the 19th time in 22 meetings, though it was just as nip-and-tuck as their meeting in Lawrence.

• No. 12 Virginia 71, No. 4 Louisville 55 — At Charlottes­ville, Va.: London Perrantes scored 18 points and Virginia used a 22-5 run to begin the second half and beat short-handed Louisville.

Isaiah Wilkins added 13 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks for the Cavaliers 18-5, 8-3 Atlantic Coast Conference). The victory gave Virginia four consecutiv­e victories against the Cardinals, including a sweep of the season series, and moved them into a tie with No. 14 Florida State for second place in the conference.

Women

• No. 11 Texas 85, No. 2 Baylor 79 — At Waco, Texas: Joyner Holmes drove for the tiebreakin­g layup with a minute left and 11th-ranked Texas held on to win its 17th consecutiv­e game at Baylor on Monday night to end the second-ranked Lady Bears’ 21-game winning streak and give them their first home loss in nearly three years.

Texas (19-4, 13-0) never trailed in the first-ever matchup of teams both 12-0 in Big 12 play.

• No. 5 Florida St. 80, No. 16 Miami 71 — At Tallahasse­e, Fla.: Chatrice White scored 19 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, and Florida State defeated Miami.

White also had 14 rebounds for her third doubledoub­le of the season. Shakayla Thomas also had 19 points, Brittany Brown added 13 and Ivey Slaughter 11 as the Seminoles (22-2, 10-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) won their ninth straight.

• No. 7 Notre Dame 85, No. 12 Louisville 66 — At South Bend, Ind.: Arike Ogunbowale scored 22 points and Notre Dame ran past Louisville.

The Irish (22-3, 10-1 ACC) used a 22-4 run to turn around an early first-quarter deficit, and led by 22 points at halftime on their way to their sixth straight victory.
