With Arbor Day approaching, Tree Lodi looking for support
Editor: Greetings from Tree Lodi, our city’s urban forestry association. Now that the sun is shining and our growing season is bursting forth, we have some pertinent questions for community residents. Did you know that Lodi’s parks lost more than 20 trees in the most recent storm alone? Some parks lost as many as three each. Will you miss them and the benefits of their shade?
Were you among the many volunteers who helped plant the 220 trees at DeBenedetti Park and 45 trees at Peterson Park? Would you like to help us again to fill the gaps in our parks’ budget? In the 12 years since Tree Lodi began, we have planted over 1,000 trees in our beautiful city, with the help of all our wonderful neighborhood volunteers, and our associations with the city parks department. Tree Lodi was established in 2005 and several original members are still active in the organization, but age and infirmity are taking their toll. With Arbor Day scheduled for Saturday, April 1 at Lodi Lake, great plans are already underway for a special event as there is much to see at the lake this year. School children will enter a poster contest to be judged by local artists for cash prizes. The Boy Scouts will add a patriotic touch and there will be refreshments for all. Come and learn about Lodi’s tree canopy and meet new friends. Can we count on you to share the event with us?

Selling out the U.S.
Editor: There is a most serious issue facing the people of the United States. That is the contact of General Michael Flynn and other as yet unidentified aides with Russian Intelligence and the Ambassador during the campaign and after the election.
There are verifiable recordings and transcripts of these conversations. (We can assume they were not discussing the weather and their golf games).
The definition of treason is “a violation of allegiance to one's country.”
If indeed the Trump campaign conspired with the Russians to influence the election, and later to undermine existing government policies, then these people are guilty of treason.
And so are those who directed them or knew about it, including President Trump. This potentially monumental national security issue appears to be being swept under the proverbial carpet. I see no reason that all members of the Senate and House should not listen to the recordings and read the transcripts, and then decide what further action is necessary, rather than it being cast aside.
Have we come to the point where "anything to win an election" is now more important than the welfare of our country and its people? FRED DANIELSON Woodbridge
We’re all wiretapped
Editor: There is some truth to Trump's story that Obama wiretapped him in that Obama wiretapped everyone, as Edward Snowden revealed. He also wiretapped Hillary, and you and me. He wiretapped our friends and he wiretapped our enemies. So even though Trump is making this story up, it happens to also be true.
Maybe Trump should put a stop to illegal warrantless wiretapping? That would be a big step to making America great again. MARC PERKEL Gilroy
