Reader: Council members need term limits, mayor should be elected

-

Editor: In recent weeks I’ve been reading the articles about Lodi’s council members. I read they have had their seats on the council for a long time. I appreciate their service, but I think it is not a good idea to stay for a long time and close the doors for other people to come forward and serve the community.

Secondly, there is no direct election for the mayor. The five council members select the one council member to serve as mayor for one year. The residents of Lodi don't know how these five council members elect the mayor and who will be their next mayor.

In November 2018, I will contest for the Lodi City Council and if elected, I will ask for:

1. Term limits for council members with a maximum of two terms.

2. Direct election of the mayor for two years or more.

3. I have a few more good things in mind, which will help reduce their bills and more. MUSHTAQ A TAHIRKHELI Lodi

America faces faction threat

Faction: A group, party, government, organization or the like.

A faction has at this time gained control of our federal government. The executive, judicial, and legislative departments. This faction consists of a large body of men and women in government who are convinced that the “American way” is unjust, and that they have a much better plan for the states of America and we the citizens there in.

Throughout our lives as American citizens we have been subjected to countless attacks on our right to govern ourselves as guaranteed by a set of laws which are superior to all other laws in our land: The U.S. Constitution. The current faction has consistently ignored these fundamental laws and used subterfuge and manipulation of popular culture to gain our subservience and favor. We the people face now, foes from within and presently, without enough knowledge of truth available on which to act. We are sitting ducks!

We actually have a lot more strength than we think we do. We have our own government state and local of our choosing. We have rich lands here in San Joaquin County for food and sustenance and security. We have every resource necessary for our families and neighbors to enjoy the American way of life we deserve.

We have doctors, hospitals, local merchants who offer a cornucopia of products and services, we do not need a fake government 3,000 miles away to hold our hand or bribe us to do things their way. We are Americans with the abilities to take care of ourselves and control others who may wish us harm. And we can do better for ourselves than those who appear on our TV screens as illusion and deception.

After all this is America Land of the free and home of the brave.! Did you Forget? L. MAURO Lodi
