County students to compete in math tourney
STOCKTON — More than 200 students in fourth through sixth grade will compete as teams and individually at the seventh annual San Joaquin County Math Tournament on April 1.
Individual participants will be required to solve 10 mathematical problems in 30 minutes during the competition, and team participants will be required to solve 10 mathematical problems cooperatively in 20 minutes. Only participants, staff, coaches, and proctors will be allowed in the tournament room.
The tournament helps schools promote excellence in math. The students who participate develop problem-solving skills, hone cooperative skills in a competitive environment and often raise their test scores. Students come from 21 schools across the county.
The tournament will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 1 at the Wentworth Education Center, 2707 Transworld Drive, Stockton. For more information, visit
