Exposing local students to the arts is an investment worth the money

-

Editor: Thank you for the outstanding coverage of Lodi Community Concert’s outreach Program, Kubecca. As you noted, LCCA covers the cost of the entertainment and the buses that transported approximately 800 students to Hutchins Street Square. It was an expensive endeavor, but we believe it was money will spent educating and motivating students in appreciation and expanding their knowledge of music.

It is a mission of Lodi Community Concert to bring musical talent to Lodi that is both affordable and inspiring. In order to bring programs of high quality we need community support.

We are hopeful that your coverage will encourage participation and support for the community Concert Association. JIM AND LOIS FINCH Lodi

There are dangers to protecting illegal criminals

Editor: Recently, in Washington, a sanctuary state, a young mother of four was shot and killed by an illegal alien criminal. The governor has instructed law enforcement not to comply with ICE and this criminal was free on $8,000 bond, and of course he never showed for court, but he did show up at a gathering where he and this young woman had words.

He and his companions allegedly kidnapped her, took her out in an SUV somewhere where she was kicked to her knees and shot in the head for “disrespecting him.” Excuse me!

Less than two weeks ago another young mother was killed on the roadway by a habitual drunken illegal who had been deported six times and arrested 20 times. Then you also have Kate Steinle.

Now another writer wants two Lodi Unified board members to resign because they did not vote for “safe haven” status for the children of illegals. Shame on Lodi Unified for trying to propagandize these children and helping them fear the government. Kudos to Sharon Kirkpatrick. This is indeed political. These children should be learning reading, writing and how to be good citizens, no matter their race or creed.

I remember working for the district, and we were always encouraged to vote Democrat. If these people might grow up to vote Republican, I don’t think you would see half this protectionism. Forget the politics and teach them what they need to learn to function in this society. SONIA F. GLICK Lockeford

Party name change

Editor: Registered Democratic Party members should be ashamed of themselves. I suggest a new name for your party: The Obstreperous Party.

This new name fits your mental attitude towards adolescent tantrums. DONALD COOK Lodi

Thanks to police

Editor: Thank you to the men and women of the Lodi Police Department. It may seem trivial to most and has to be frustrating to you, but being able to count on your help in keeping the homeless off our property is greatly appreciated. JOE PETERSEN Lodi
