Elliot baseball opens with a resounding win

Now that basketball season is over, many of Elliot High’s players from its run to the NorCal championsh­ip game have begun another season.

That season started with a flurry of hits in Elliot’s 18-1 win over Langston Hughes Academy on Monday at Billy Hebert Field in Stockton.

Nate Bond and Robert Dutcher led the Eagles at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs each. Cody Doell went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Alex Pinasco had a pair of doubles with three RBIs, Josh Alejandre was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, Tyler Schrader was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Nick Figueroa went 2-for-3 with a double. In total, Elliot tallied 19 hits. Figueroa got the win on the mound, with two innings of relief.

Of the 13 players on the roster, nine of them were on the basketball team, meaning coach Dean Balcao has had most of his team for about a week and a half.

Now that the season’s started, Elliot (1-0) jumps right into league play with a home game Wednesday against Stone Ridge Christian (3-5) out of Merced. First pitch is at 6 p.m. at Zupo Field.

Elliot’s softball team also played offensivel­y on Monday, with a 24-3 win over Delta Charter out of Tracy. Madi Sepp belted a grand slam and a double to finish with six RBIs for the Eagles (5-2-1).

Lexie Juelch added a home run, a single and four RBIs, Grace Robles had a triple and a double, Tabby Land had a double and a single, as did Sara Burns and Charis Guerzo, and Annabelle Sepp had a double.

Annabelle Sepp pitched three innings, striking out six, followed by two innings from Robles, who struck out two.
