Hit-and-run collision damages vehicles, residence in Lodi

- By Katie Kishi

A hit-and-run collision sent a car careening into a yard, taking out two trees before stopping just inches away from a home on Monday morning in Lodi.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., Lodi police officers responded to a call of an accident at the corner of Heidelberg Way and Tienda Lane, just east of the Target shopping center.

According to officers at the scene, a 2008 Chevy Uplander was traveling westbound on Tienda when a white Jeep going southbound on Heidelberg drove through the stop sign and broadsided the passenger side of the Chevy.

On collision, the Jeep lost control and pushed the Chevy into a residence on the 2300 block of Tienda, taking out two trees along the way.

The Chevy’s front end was crunched and the driver’s airbag was deployed upon hitting the trees.

The driver of the Jeep fled after regaining control of the car, police said, but the collision left behind the car’s front bumper, with the license plate attached, embedded in the Chevy’s side.

The victims in the Chevy included a woman and her young child, who were uninjured.

“It was a pretty bad collision but the outcome could’ve been worse. They were lucky enough to walk away without any injuries,” said Sgt. Steve Maynard.

The Lodi Police Department has talked to family members of the driver, who confirmed the identity of the person driving the Jeep, according to police. The driver’s identity has not been released.
