Hutchins Easter egg hunt is on

- By Danielle Vaughn

At least 600 kids are expected to gather at Hutchins Street Square in search of Easter eggs on Saturday morning.

The Hutchins Street Square Foundation is sponsoring an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m.

According to Lodi Recreation Manager Jennifer Winn, the first horn will be blown for ages 1-3 and then the next horn will be blown for ages 4-7 after a twominute gap. Ages 8-12 will follow after another two-minute gap.

“This will basically give all the little kids a head start,” Winn said.

The Easter Bunny will be making an appearance starting at 9:30 a.m. and will be available for free pictures with the children. Parents are welcomed to bring their cameras and take photos. A photographer will also be available.

Winn said she was excited to announce that this year the foundation is partnering with Lifeline Community Church, which has donated breakfast food to be served during the hunt.

Food will be free to all attending the hunt.

In addition to the free food, the church also made special eggs containing prize certificates that are going to be hidden. Prizes include toys and bicycles.

According to Winn, approximately 10,000 eggs will be hidden for the hunt. The eggs will be pre-filled will candy or small toys.

“They are all here ready to go in buckets,” Winn said.

At least 40 volunteers including members of Lifeline Community Church and Big Valley Seniors will help with hiding the eggs.

Winn said this is the foundation’s fourth year sponsoring this event.

“It’s just a fun community event. It gets families together, and there are a lot of kids out there that don’t get a chance to go hunt for Easter eggs, and we wanted to make sure we provided those eggs and give a way some fun prizes and get families together.”

The event has drawn as many as 600 people in previous years and this year’s goal is to have 800 children attend, Winn said.

“The more the merrier,” Winn said.

For kids who may not be good seekers, Winn said she makes sure every child walks away with eggs.
