Robbery, warrants keep Lodi police busy

-

Detectives with the Lodi Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit stayed busy on Wednesday, responding to a robbery, while making arrests on outstanding warrants and a stolen car.

At about 7:30 p.m., Sergeant Kevin Kent and Detective Mark Werdon caught up with Harland Kenyon, 24, in a foot chase and arrested him for an outstanding warrant near Sacramento and DeForce streets.

An hour and a half later, Werdon was involved in another foot chase, this time after Bryan Ash, 28, on the 300 block to Forrest Ave. Ash was arrested for an outstanding warrant as well as possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

Minutes after the second foot chase, the department received reports of a robbery at Kohl’s Department Store on Hutchins Street and Kettleman Lane.

As officers arrived on the scene, a woman reportedly armed with a handgun accosted the driver of a silver Nissan Sentra in the parking lot. The driver exited the vehicle, and the woman got behind the wheel and drove away. She is still at large, and detectives are attempting to track down her identity, according to Lieutenant Fernando Martinez.

During the aftermath of the robbery, Werdon and K-9 officer Ryan LaRue were searching for the suspect when they found a vehicle near Winchester Drive and McCoy that was stolen in a carjacking last week in a vineyard east of Lodi. The vehicle was occupied by Edelmiro Zuniga, 22, who was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Anyone with information on the robbery suspect is urged to contact the Lodi Police Department at (209) 333-6728 or the Lodi Area Crime Stoppers at (209) 369-2746.
