Lodi Archery to help blind archer Walth get to World Para Championsh­ips

Lodi Archey in Lockeford will host a fundraiser on Saturday to help send Janice Walth, a blind archer, to the ParaArcher­y World Championsh­ips in Beijing to defend her gold medal.

The Clements-Lockeford Lions Club will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drink. There will also be several archery-related raffle prizes, gift certificat­es for local restaurant­s and three afghans crocheted by Walth herself.

Walth won the last world championsh­ips in August of 2015 in Donaueschi­ngen, Germany.

BASEBALL

The Flames’ offense came alive in Thursday’s Tri-City Athletic League victory over the Wolf Pack, with 11hits and three walks.

At the same time, Lodi’s defense bent but didn’t break, with Robbie Loiacono giving up10 hits but only two runs in a complete-game effort with two strikeouts.

Bobby Yabumoto went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs, Ben Prentiss had a double and two runs, Logan Morita went 2-for-3 with two RBIs from the leadoff spot, Evan Webb went 2-for-2, and Jacob Jordan, Alejandro Avila, Nathan Foster and Chad Plath each singled.

Lodi hosts West today at 4 p.m. at Zupo Field for the finale of their three-game series. Frosh-soph

Kolton Fernandez and Bryce Neuvert both doubled in Thursday’s loss, while Miles Kirkendall, Asiel Garcia and Devin Olsen singled for Tokay’s five hits. Cody Meyer and Alberto Magallanes pitched for the Tigers, striking out five between them.

Ian Watanable had three of the Flames’ 12 hits, plus 5 RBIs in Thursday’s league road game. Justin Cotta and Lucas Foster had two hits each. Cody Mize smacked a triple, Jose Hinojosa had a double, and Owen Christense­n and Josh Myers had a base hit each.

On the mound, Jonathan Charboneau went five innings, struck out 11 and gave up five hits. Christense­n tossed the final two innings for Lodi (2-6 in the TCAL), struck out one and allowed one hit.

BADMINTON

Sam Ellison got a win in two sets at No. 1 singles, and the Flames’ two doubles teams won to edge the Rams in the boys match. At No. 1 doubles, Erik Christense­n and Michael O’Mahoney won in three sets, taking the final set 21-18, and at No. 2 doubles, Brenden Duran and Faisal Ahmad swept their opponents. The Flames’ girls squad lost 5-0.

Tokay High’s fourth-seeded Eric Sweringin advanced to the TCAL singles semifinals on Thursday at In Shape-Marina before falling 6-1, 6-4 to top seed David Jackson. Jackson will face No. 2 Tyler Shih of Tracy in the championsh­ip today.

Sweringin defeated St. Mary’s Quyen Pham 10-4 in the first round and Lincoln’s Abirath Nakka 10-8 in the second round (the first two rounds were 10-game pro sets).

Tokay’s Casey Myers advanced to the second round with a 10-5 win over Lodi’s Roman Huerta, then fell 10-0 to Shih.

All three Lodi entrants exited in the first round — Reid Maley with a loss to Jackson, Brady Pike with a loss to Tracy’s Zai Mamsa and Huerta. Tokay’s Nick Lozano lost to Tracy’s Jason Reddy.

Maley and Pike faced off in the consolatio­n quarterfia­nls, with an 8-4 Maley win, before Maley fell to St. Mary’s Steven Do. Huerta took down Lozano in the consolatio­n quarterfin­als, then fell to Ehlert in the consolatio­n semifinals. Varsity coed

Juliet Rodriguez and Elvira Cruz from Liberty Ranch defeated Angel Wilson and Annie La of Cordova 6-0, 6-3 to win the girls doubles championsh­ip in the Sierra Valley Conference tournament on Thursday. In singles boys, the Hawks’ Will Gasca lost to Gabe Wagner of El Dorado 6-3, 6-4 in the final.

All three Liberty Ranch players move on to the Sac-Joaquin Section tournament next week at Oak Park in Stockton.

TRACK AND FIELD Varsity boys

Lodi used a team effort to win on Thursday, with Erik Ebert winning the 400 at 51.11 seconds, Samuel Wright winning the pole vault at 14 feet even, Ben Bishop winning the shot put at 43 feet, 11 inches, Damien Biegler winning the high jumnp at 6-0, Darrius Hart winning the triple jump at 40-8 and Peter Vo winning the 3,200 at 10:10. The Flames dominated in Thursday’s win, with Paige Sefried winning the 400 at 1:00.34, the 300 hurdles and the 200 at 26.20. Jarene Brown won the pole vault at 8-6, Raychel Brown won the triple jump at 32-2, Rachel Maddox won the 1,600 at 5:38.46, Jamison Nutting won the high jump at 4-10, Maddy Ridgway won the shot put at 326, Brooke Aberle won the 800 at 2:32.48, Naomi Gonzalez won the discus at 102-8 and Monica Valenzuela won the long jump at 15-0. Three double-winners punctuated Thursday’s win — Tylor Tankersly in the 1,600 (5:03.30) and 800 (2:18.5), Chase Howell in the 110 hurdles (17.31) and 300 hurdles (44.10) and Raife Porter in the discus (100-4.5) and shot put (35-5). Frosh-soph girls

The Flames won every event, withfour double-winners in Yasmin Melendrez in the 1,600 (6:00.07) and 800 (2:44.86), Kaylee Mataga-Sayler in the 100 hurdles (17.76) and 300 hurdles (54.01), Hannah Dondero in the 100 (14.15) and 200 (30.93) and Emily Dubois in the triple jump (30-7) and long jump (148).

SOFTBALL

The Hawks improved to 11-1 in the SVC and 17-2-1 overall with the decisive win over the Lancers.

Liberty Ranch plays three games next week, including the SVC finale at Rosemont (9-2 in the SVC, 14-4).

In another SVC game, El Dorado blanked Galt (1-9 in the SVC, 8-9 overall) 7-0. The Warriors will play the Hawks at the Galt Sports Complex on Monday.
