Soroptimist International celebrates 72 years in Lodi
Members of Soroptimist International of Lodi recently celebrated the club’s 72 years of service in the community.
The celebration was held at Richmaid Restaurant.
The guest speaker at the club’s “birthday” celebration was Amory Elizondo, the chairwoman of Sierra Pacific Region Membership. She shared information about how to recruit new members to the club.
Soroptimist members have a long history of service in Lodi. Projects taken on by the club have included the Sunshine Trail Garden for the Blind at Micke Grove Park, caring for Candy Cane Park, and donations to Hope Harbor Shelter for women and children as well as to Lodi House.
SI Lodi members Germaine Burke, Paula Straw, Deborah Miller and Kim Monaco recently volunteered at Lodi House during the Love Lodi event.
Soroptimist is a service organization for professional women whose mission is to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

NAMI Family Support Group to meet
NAMI San Joaquin County Lodi Family Support Group will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at Lodi Avenue Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 2301 W. Lodi Ave.
NAMI Family Support Group is a monthly group for family members, partners and friends of individuals living with mental health challenges, including serious mental illness.

Feast of the Ascension
The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist invites the community to attend a Celtic Eucharist for the Feast of the Ascension. The topic will be “Absence and Presence.” Informal worship will feature chants, communion and community. A potluck reception will follow.

Soul Kitchen community dinner
Members of St. John Episcopal Church will hold a Soul Kitchen community dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church, 1055 S. Lower Sacramento Road, Lodi.
The dinner is open to anyone in the community who would like to come. There is no charge, but donations are accepted.
Lodi Public Library computer classes
The Lodi Public Library will hold a computer class on Microsoft Word.
Classes will be held at 9 a.m. May 24, 25, 31 and June 1. Topics will cover how to create and edit various types of Word documents. Participants should have basic computer skills.

Lodi Ukulele Club meeting
The Lodi Ukulele Club will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lodi Public Library, 201 W. Locust St. All skill levels are welcome to join the circle. Bring your uke, sing along or just enjoy the music. Attendance is open to the public and free of charge.
Chronic pain support group
The American Chronic Pain Association will hold education and support groups from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Classroom 3, 1800 California St., Stockton.
Participants will learn helpful hints for everyday living such as relaxation techniques, positive effects of exercise, coping skills, selfhypnosis and communicating with doctors.
