Lorin H. Rathe passed away on May 17, 2017, four days before his 95th birthday, after living a full life. He was born on May 21, 1922, in Sterling, NE to Fred and Ernestine Rathe.

He graduated from high school in 1940 in Elk Creek, Nebraska, where he was active playing basketball throughout his high school years. During WWII he worked as a riveter on the B25 bomber in both Culver City, California and at the Glenn L. Martin Bomber Plant on Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, NE. Throughout the 1940s Lorin lived in Omaha and was an active member of First Lutheran Church’s Walther League where he met and married Viola Suhr. They had four children and were married for 40 years until Viola’s passing in 1990. In 1961 the family moved to Stockton where he worked as service manager for Lowell Rathe Mobile Homes. In later years he was self-employed as a repair technician and did routine maintenanc­e for Stockton Joe’s Restaurant.

In 1995 Lorin met Ellie Glaab and for 13 years they enjoyed each other’s company by going to rodeos, traveling with the SIRS and attending dinner-dances until her passing in 2008.

Lorin will be remembered for his love of sports and faithfully following the 49ers, Giants, Kings and Warriors. One highlight being he was a Warriors season ticket holder during their 74-75 season when they won the title.

Lorin is survived by his four children: David Rathe of Stockton, Larry Rathe of Cupertino, CA, Philip Rathe (Diana) of Woodbridge and Maryann Dalrymple (John) of Stockton; his five grandchild­ren: Alyssa Rathe of Lodi, Alex Rathe of Sacramento, Evan Rathe of Long Beach, CA, Ashley Dalrymple (Tom) of Stockton and Andrew Dalrymple (Ashley) of Woodbridge; four greatgrand­children; brother Lowell Rathe (Mary) of Ione, CA; nieces: Susan Boyd of Ohio, Linda Rathe of Lodi and Barbara Boynton of Acampo; sister-in-law Maxine Eggink of Nebraska and nephew Randy Eggink of Nebraska.

Memorial Service to be held on Wednesday, May 31 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 4910 Claremont Ave., Stockton, CA 95207, with a reception to follow. Private graveside committal at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Lorin with donations to St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church.
