Calling out Bernie supporters

-

Editor: Bernie Sanders backers say Democrats are in crisis and denial.

Who are these lovable Uncle Bernie supporters who made a big thing about not voting for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election? They left the door wide open for Donald Trump to win the presidency through the Electoral College. Are you happy now?

During the 2016 presidential contest the Sanders supporters seemed more like “Republicans in drag” as they provided a hindrance to Democrats retaining the White House. RON LOWE Nevada City

Exploiting the death of a DNC staffer

Editor: Margaret Truman (daughter of President Harry Truman) penned a novel, “Murder in the White House.” It wasn’t a barn-burner, but her name at least got the tome into print.

Now a real murder in the nation’s capitol is lifting hasbeen politicians from the slime. Truth be darned, they want this event to somehow besmirch the hated Democratic Party. One blast from the past, whose nickname is that of a lizard, flew to a bastion of right-wing media to tell his version of the sad tale.

According to a May 20 article by Yahoo News editor Christopher Wilson, Newt Gingrich the crime solved. But the once-and-former presidential hopeful claims no one is taking action:

“Newt Gingrich, speaking Sunday on Fox News, pushed the idea that DNC staffer Seth Rich, who was shot and killed last summer in Washington, D.C., was murdered as part of a WikiLeaks-related conspiracy.

“We have this very strange story now of this young man who worked for the Democratic National Committee,’ said Gingrich, (a) Trump backer whose wife has been nominated as U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, ‘who apparently was assassinated at 4 in the morning .... ’

“‘Nobody’s investigating that, and what does that tell you about what’s going on?’ added Gingrich. ‘(T)his young guy who, I suspect, was disgusted by the corruption of the Democratic National Committee. He’s been killed, and apparently nothing serious has been done to investigative his murder. So I’d like to see how [special counsel Robert] Mueller is going to define what his assignment is.’ ”

Capitol police said Rich was the victim of a robbery gone sour. His death is a tragedy. His life deserves to be remembered with gratitude that he had been willing to help build a hopeful future for the nation.

Of course police reports mean nothing when a perceived political opportunity is at hand. Slimy Newt Gingrich didn’t smear Democrats, but surely polished the reputation of Republicreeps as the party of nasty. LANGE WINCKLER Lodi
