All-SVC teams include two Liberty Ranch MVPs

-

The Sierra Valley Conference released its all-conference teams earlier this week, and the list includes two MVPs from Liberty Ranch: Corey Potthoff in baseball and Will Gasca in tennis.

Gasca went 9-1 in league play, and advanced to the championship of the SVC individual championship before falling 6-3, 6-4 to Gabe Wagner of El Dorado.

“He has a very aggressive style. He is very focused,” Liberty Ranch coach Oscar Rodriguez said. “He will try to take advantage of any weaknesses he sees even before the match starts, when you’re warming up. He takes it very seriously. He was voted the MVP even though he did not win the conference championship, and that was because of his sportsmanship.”

Potthoff batted .413 in 20 games, with three doubles, 18 runs and 14 RBIs. He also amassed a 5-1 record on the mound with a 0.99 earned-run average in 28 1/3 innings. He had two shutouts and 32 strikeouts.

The Hawks’ league-champion baseball and softball teams raked in the awards, with Mark Aubrey, Colton Hughes, Cameron Falcon and Trevor Arnston joining Potthoff on the baseball all-conference team, while Rachael Atkins, Haley Ward, Jordyn Farren, Lexi Davis, Celina Maberto and Lexi Cheever were on the softball team.

In addition, Liberty Ranch’s Shauna DalBianco was named the SVC softball coach of the year.

Others for Liberty Ranch included Adam Lopes and Garrett McElroy in golf, Morgan Beeson in swimming, Derek Miller, Elvira Cruz and Juliette Rodriguez in coed tennis, and Kamil Jones, Collin Ullrich, Steven Thornburg, Devyn Kelley and Toni Arriaga in track and field.

All-conference selections for Galt included Joseph Cortez in baseball, Andrew Bustamante in golf, McKinzie Spriggs and Samantha Martinez in softball, co-coach of the year Shannon Potter in swimming, and Chase Taylor and Alicia Orozco in coed tennis.

The Central California Athletic Alliance released its all-league softball team as well, with Elliot’s Madi Sepp and Tabitha Lang on the first team. Annabelle Sepp and Grace Robles were named to the second team.
