KATHRYN LUCILLE INMAN

-

On May 11, 2017, Kathryn Inman peacefully passed from this earth. She was preceded in death by Alvin, her husband of 60 years, and sons Steven and Boyce.

A lifelong Lodi resident, she was born at the old Central Avenue Maternity Hospital, on July 29, 1925. The daughter of Paul Templar Nesbit and Freda Jahant Nesbit, she had a younger brother named Paul. Especially proud to be a descendant of the pioneer Jahant family, she was a member of the San Joaquin County Historical Society, the Nesbit Genealogical Society and The Westerners. A keen student of local history, Kathryn could talk at length on the subject.

She had been a member of the First Christian Church in Lodi and graduated from Lodi High School in 1944, then she attended Stockton College and the College of the Pacific. In 1948 she married Alvin Inman, a WWII Marine Corps veteran and together, they raised 4 sons, Steven, James, Boyce and Jonathan. When the family went on outings, she dressed all of the boys alike. That way, if one got lost, she could say “He looks just like this, only shorter (or taller).”

As a young mother she worked seasonally at the cannery on Stockton Street, and as a dental assistant. Later, she worked for and retired from the California State Employment Development Department.

Inspired and encouraged by Mom’s wide scientific interests, the Inman household always included a fine insect collection and a host of cats, dogs, rodents, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Beyond zoology, she fostered in her sons a broad interest in science, art and history. She drew exceptionally well and she was a good teacher. In the night sky she could point out and name the stars, planets, and constellations. When she found time, she would darn socks with great precision.

Of her sons, she insisted upon good grammar, clean fingernails and a prayer before the evening meal. All of them were Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

She is survived by her son Jonathan and his wife Emily, her son Jim and his wife Renee, and their son Stuart, who is her sole grandchild. Nieces, nephews, and cousins are many.

Her High school reunions and those lifelong friendships were very important to her and she was involved in planning the frequent class reunions well into her 80s.

Active in the community she was a member of the Omega Nu Sorority and the PEO Sisterhood. Being artistically gifted, she designed and organized the construction of large grape murals annually for display and competition at the Lodi Grape Festival. Over the span of 30 years, her efforts won many awards for her Omega Nu Sorority.

Friends of the Inman family are invited to a celebration of her life at the IOOF Hall, 26 S. Pleasant Ave. Sat June 10th, at 1:00. Donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Final Services will be private.
