Reds 2-1 in Cooperstow­n

The Lodi Reds 12 and under baseball team are halfway through pool play games at the Cooperstow­n All-Star Village in Cooperstow­n, N.Y.

In their third game of the tournament on Monday, the Reds, who are 2-1 in pool play games, lost a tough 4-3 contest to the Irvine Colts. A walk-off home run in the sixth inning gave the Colts the win.

On offense, Josh Anderson went 3-for-3 that included a double and two singles for the Reds. Anderson also scored three of the Reds’ runs. Hugo Balderrama had two hits, both singles, while Lodi teammates Gage Jimenez, Matthew Alagna and Braden Stout had singles each.

The Reds posted their second win of the tournament on Sunday with a wild 13-10 victory over Livonia Hawks, out of Michigan. The Reds’ Dante Cecchini picked up the win on the mound, while Alagna picked up the save.

Lodi had big hits from Anderson, who had two doubles, and a double each from Zach Stephens and Ryan Hunter. Caleb Hendricks along with Reds teammates Jaron Diaz, Cecchini and Alagna, had a single each.

In its first game that was played at 4 a.m. PDT on Sunday, Lodi defeated its first opponent in pool play in the Jersey Base Gnats, 42. Anderson started on the mound for the Reds, going the distance as he struck out seven and scattered five hits.

At the plate, Lodi was fueled by Dylan Evans who went to 2-for-2 and scored a run. Zach Stephens also went 2-for-2, and Brayden Stout and Jake Lopez also added hits for the Reds.

The Reds held a 2-1 lead over the Gnats going into the bottom of the third inning. Then Lodi tacked on another run for a 3-1 lead thanks to a Gnats error, plus a hit off Stephens’ bat and Cecchini walked.

Jersey Base cut the Reds’ lead to 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning. But Lodi added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning in which Alagna walked and later scored for the final score.
