Mixed re­sults for Lodi-area di­a­mond squads

A fun sea­son came to an end for the Lodi Reds 12 and un­der base­ball team at the Coop­er­stown All-Star Vil­lage tour­na­ment in Coop­er­stown, N.Y. on late Wed­nes­day night.

In the sin­gle-elim­i­na­tion por­tion of the tour­nan­ment, the Reds were one game away from earn­ing a sweet 16 spot. But the Arena Stars, out of Bal­ti­more, MD, posted a 7-0 win. The Reds’ of­fense was held to just three hits off the bats of Dante Cec­chini, Bray­den Stout and Jake Lopez.

Ac­cord­ing to Ja­son Evans, the Reds’ new sea­son starts Aug. 1.

Lodi All-Stars 10s

On Sun­day, Lodi opens ac­tion in the Cal Rip­ken State Tour­na­ment in Bakersfield, play­ing against Ripon for the third time in a week.

Last week­end, the Lodi All-Stars 10 and un­der squad won the Cal Rip­ken Dis­trict 1 All-Star tour­na­ment. Lodi outscored its three op­po­nents by 36-4 mar­gin.

Lodi played Ripon twice that in­cluded the sec­ond game for the dis­trict cham­pi­onship game with an 113 win. In the first game that was pool play, Lodi recorded an 8-1 vic­tory. In the tour­na­ment opener, Lodi was too much for Escalon 17-0.

Mem­bers of the Lodi squad are Lan­don Beasley, Charlie Caszza, An­drew Ficht­ner, Brent Go­d­ina, Kaden Guthrie, Nick John­son, Ro­man Man­grich, Felix Mil­lan, Chris­tian Oli­vares, Santino Ramirez, Slade Sch­mitt and Derik Wages.

Pitch­ers for Lodi were al­most un­touch­able at the dis­trict tour­na­ment. Ac­cord­ing to Lodi man­ager Tim Man­grich, his pitch­ers com­bined for a to­tal of 32 strike­outs.
