EVADNE (“EVE”) HANSON THOMPSON

-

1928 – 2017

Evadne (eh-VAD-nah) passed away on June 26, 2017, with grace and dignity, with her son at her side, on a beautiful afternoon, listening to classical music that she enjoyed.

Eve was born in Fortuna, CA on August 21, 1928 to Emil Hanson and Zella M. Hanson, spending the first 6 years of her life on their dairy. In 1934, the family moved to Lodi to live and operate a small family vineyard. Eve graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1946 and from San Jose State in 1950. There, and throughout her life she was active with Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Her earliest years of teaching were spent in Cloverdale and Bakersfield. She then moved to Sacramento, where she ultimately settled in at Del Campo High School when it first opened in 1964. Eve was a P.E. teacher, and for the last ten years or so, she coached the girls’ tennis team. She thoroughly enjoyed her job, her coworkers and students. Eve was a world traveler, an avid reader, and enjoyed music and the arts. Eve retired to Lodi in 1983 to care for her mother and manage the small family vineyard. In 1993, she sold the vineyard and continued to reside on a comfortable 5-acre estate until 2005, when she was placed into a wonderful Alzheimer-Dementia residence at Sacramento, Primrose, now known as Revere Court. Eve experienced a long and gradual decline for 25 years. She spent more than 12 years at Revere Court, receiving top care in an enjoyable environment.

Eve is survived by her only son, Richard Duff Thompson, and 3 nieces and 1 nephew. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Emily McAllister and Patricia Stikkers.

She had the unique quality of enjoying every aspect of her life. Regardless of the task, she did her best, took pride in her work, and enjoyed it. She was an outgoing person, making friends easily. She will be deeply missed.

The family would like to extend its fondest gratitude to the management and staff at Revere Court for many years of loving care. Also thanks to VITAS Health Care for the excellent hospice care during the last year of Eve’s life.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:30am, at Lodi Memorial Cemetery. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, the SPCA, or your local animal shelter.
