Scientific magic show will wow at the Lodi Public Library
FREMONT — Alan Kahn, aka The Amazing Alan, aims to pique the curiosity of anyone with an imagination and a sense of wonder with his new show, “STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Magic.”
Kahn is a professional magician and a middle school science teacher. His new, family-friendly show encourages children of all ages and kids at heart to get involved at the intersection of science and magic.
“The show may look like a typical magic show, but there are no magic tricks,” Kahn said. “Everything you see is being done to show how science is not only all around us, but (that it) has a captivating, magical quality.”
The U.S. Department of Education has projected that careers in STEM fields are on the rise. STEM education connect today’s children with the indemand careers of tomorrow, Kahn said.
On Thursday, he will visit the Lodi Public Library with his show.
At the show, the audience will discover just how strong air pressure is, investigate how a ball can float in air thanks to the Bernoulli Principle, and, using Newton’s 1st Law of Motion, see if a table cloth really can be pulled out from under a full table without causing the dishes to crash to the floor.
Kahn draws on his experience as a professional magician and a classroom science teacher to create original and captivating routines that showcase the magic of science.
He has presented the show at county fairs, STEM and science festivals, maker fairs, summer camps and school science fairs.
Kahn, who has practiced magic since the age of 13, holds two California teaching credentials and is a member of the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood.
During the school year, Kahn works as a middle school science teacher in San Jose.
