Host families needed for high school students

ASSE Internatio­nal Student Exchange Programs is looking for local families to host boys and girls between the ages of 15 to 18 from a variety of countries, including Norway, Denmark, Spain, Italy and Japan.

ASSE students are hoping to experience American culture while they practice their English language skills. Host families welcome these students as family members.

Exchange students have pocket money for personal expenses and full health, accident and liability insurance.

ASSE students are selected based on academics and personalit­y, and host families can choose their student from a wide variety of background­s, countries and personal interests.

Teachers Summit at University of the Pacific

University of the Pacific is serving as one of the host sites for today’s third annual California Teachers Summit. Featured events include: • Keynote address by Jill Biden livestream­ed to 35 sites across California.

• Live TED-style EdTalks by local teachers Adrianne Go-Miller on “Stop. Think. Empower Students for the Future” and Peter Gallegos on “STEM, Specifical­ly Robotics, is not Gender Specific.”

• EdCamp discussion­s on timely topics such as addressing bullying in the classroom, celebratin­g diversity, and teaching students to be critical thinkers.

The summit will take place at University of the Pacific’s Alex and Jeri Vereschagi­n Alumni House, 1022 Dave Brubeck Way, Stockton, from 8 a.m. to 12;30 p.m. Additional sessions will continue until 3:15 p.m. at the Pacific site.

Dates for school breaks

Lodi Unified School District students return to school on Monday.

Following are some of the breaks in the 2017-18 school year.

• The fall break runs from Monday, Oct. 2 to Friday, Oct. 13.

• Students will be out Nov. 22-24 the week of Thanksgivi­ng.

• The winter break runs from Friday, Dec. 22 to Friday, Jan. 5.

• The spring break runs from Monday, March 12 to Friday, March 23.

• The last day of school is June 1.
