LEWIS MARION HAMMONDS
1940 – 2017
Lewis passed in his sleep at his Lodi home on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 5am. He was born at 5am September 20, 1940 in Alexander City, Alabama to John “Buddy” and Maudie Hammonds. He married August 6, 1961 and resided predominately in the Lodi area since.
He served in the U.S. Navy, and completed his high school diploma prior to discharge. He worked in the dairy industry, Goehring Meat Company, and finally retired from the Department of Corrections, DVI. He enjoyed hunting, camping, abalone diving, and poker. He was an active member of Harvest Worship Center Church.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rebekah Hammonds; sisters JoAnn Grizzle (Ray) of Birgmingham Al and Cindy Hammonds of Opelika Al; daughter Tammy Naylor (David) of Lodi; son Lewis Hammonds II (Sherry) of Morada, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents John “Buddy” and Maudie Hammonds; brothers Douglas Eugene Coleman, Robert Donald, Michael Dempsey, and Johnny Elliot Hammonds; and grandson Michael Lewis Hammonds.
Friends and family are invited to the service Friday, August 11, at 10:00 in the Vinyard Chapel at Cherokee Memorial, 14165 N. Beckman Road. Interment will immediately follow the services and includes full military honors.
