MYRTLE ADELL (MERT) PFEIFFER

Myrtle Adell (Mert) Pfeiffer, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 13, 2017. Lodi Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangemen­ts. No date has been set for a service.

Mert was born on June 18, 1931, in Acampo to Arthur G. Young and Helen G. Young. She started high school in Angels Camp, CA, and then graduated from Lodi Union High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Annabelle Weatherman, and in 1988 by her husband Harold Arthur (Hap) Pfeiffer. Mert and Hap Pfeiffer were married on Valentine’s Day in 1953. While Mert and Hap had no children together, she was very close and will be deeply missed by her step-sons Harold Arthur Pfeiffer II and James William Pfeiffer, their respective spouses Diane and Janet, and their entire families. She had six grandchild­ren and 16 great grandchild­ren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mert earned a nursing degree and worked for most of her profession­al career as a registered nurse (RN) at the Stockton State Hospital. After retirement Mert volunteere­d at Lodi Memorial Hospital, an activity that she enjoyed very much. Mert’s loves were helping people and caring for her dogs.

Mert and Hap enjoyed many activities over the years, especially spending nearly every summer at Silver Lake, east of Jackson in El Dorado County, and many winters at the coast in Pismo Beach.

Mert had several very close friends and neighbors in Lodi. The family wants to sincerely thank each of her friends, neighbors, and caregivers, for the love and attention they shared with Mert these past years.
