Tokay water polo silences Bear Creek
The Tokay High varsity girls water polo team opened the season with a victory on Tuesday, defeating Bear Creek 12-5 at home.
Nicole Iturraran led the Tigers with seven goals, along with two each from Lizzie Macfarland and Hannah Ortiz. Reagan Hauschild added one more.
In goal, Jill Wagner recorded six saves for Tokay. Frosh-soph
Sophie Smith scored five goals for Tokay, and Mackenzie Smith had one as the Tigers, which won five games at a tournament over the weekend, dropped its first game.
Alana Stoops had five saves.
Varsity
Desiree Vasquez had a 43 for Lodi (3-0 in the Tri-City Athletic League, 4-0 overall) at Tracy Country Club, par-36.
Devin Franklin followed for the Flames at 54, and Maria Valenzuela and Allisa Yabumoto had a 55 each. Catiee Newport finished at 58.
The Hawks survived in Monday’s Sierra Valley Conference match at the par-33 Emerald Lakes course, led by Jackie Schmidt’s 1under 32.
Other scorers for Liberty Ranch were Johnna Wise at 47, Brittany Cooper at 49, Allison Huynh at 54 and Alejandra Oceguera at 61.

Natalie Polhemus had 21 assists for Tokay (9-7) in Tuesday’s sweep over Ripon in a nonleague home match at The Jungle; the final scores were 25-12, 25-23, 25-18.
Grace Polhemus had 17 digs, and Kassandra Erickson followed with 16 for the Tigers. Kayly Pau recorded 12 kills, and Cianna Guidi contributed with 10 kills.
