GALT — A track race took place in front of a large homecoming crowd at Warrior Stadium on Friday, courtesy of the Galt and Franklin football teams.

After the dust settled, Galt, looking to improve to 4-1 before the start of Sierra Valley Conference play next Friday, looked like it would reach its mark. But the visiting Yellowjackets put the sting in the Warriors with a wild 34-28 overtime win.

Galt (3-2) had four chances to score from the Franklin 10yard line in overtime. But a run play that resulted in no yards, and two incomplete passes resulted in Franklin possession. Then on its second play touch on offense from the Warrior 9-yard line, Franklin running back Felipe Figueroa took the hand-off from quarterback Julian Lopez, went offtackle and found the end zone on a 9-yard run for the win.

The Yellowjackets (2-3) tied the game at 28-28 with 8:06 left in the fourth quarter when Figueroa went up in the air to grab a pass from Lopez, and sliced between two Galt defensive backs and exploded 44 yards for the touchdown.

Galt took a 28-20 lead on the first play of the fourth quarter when quarterback Robert Bulahan Jr. found tight end Giovanni Escalante. Opting for the 2-point conversion, Warrior fullback Izic Lopez ran an offtackle play.

In the third quarter with 2:42 on the clock, the Yellowjackets tied the game at 20-20 when Lopez threw the third of four touchdown passes in the game, this one to wide receiver Nick Dominguez for 21 yards.

Leading 14-13 at halftime, Galt extended its lead to 20-13 with 5:17 in the third quarter. Finding time to find a receiver, Bulahan Jr. threw a pop pass to running back Keyshawn Brooks on a 9-yard score. The Warriors attempted a 2-point conversion run that was stopped short of the goal line.
