Online reports an effective way to contact police

- SGT. KEVIN KENT

This last month our presentation of “411 with 911” covered online reporting. Retired Sgt. Chinn has been handling our online reporting and spoke at the event. He discussed how to make an online report and showed everyone the step-by-step process for filing a report online. Currently we are averaging over 100 online reports per month.

Early in June, we discussed how to contact LPD, and this is one of the many great ways to do so. All you have to do is go to our website (www.lodi.gov/police) and select “Online Police Report.”

It will take you to a screen with examples of what types of reports you can file online. Once you select the “Next” button, you can go through answering the questions to complete the report.

Please include as much information as possible to assist the online report-takers in completing your report.

Once your report is completed online, it will be sent off for review. If there are additional questions or follow-up needed to complete your report, you will be contacted.

If the report needs further investigation it will be assigned to an officer for follow-up. If there is nothing further needed with the report, you will get a response to notify you that it has been documented.

Again, if you are wondering if you should contact us about something that may be crime related or suspicious, the answer is yes! Even by filing an online report, it helps notify us of suspicious circumstances or crimes in the community. It helps us keep track of where the crimes are occurring so that we can adjust our patrols and crime suppression tactics to those areas. We want to provide everyone in the community the best service possible. This is one of the ways you can help us accomplish that.

The Lodi Police Department will continue to partner with the Lodi Library to discuss topics like this with the community. These meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month. This month’s meeting will be moved to the Lodi Police Department Community Room which is located at 215 W. Elm Street.

This month we wanted to discuss child safety, with Halloween quickly approaching. We have information and pamphlets on bullying, gun safety, peer pressure, online safety, drug abuse, depression, and Halloween safety tips. We will also have child ID kits, some bicycle helmets, gun locks, and bracelets to give away.

If you want more information or have questions, plan to join us Thursday, at 5 p.m. for our next meeting at the Lodi Police Department Community Room.
