Thrilled with DMV service

-

Editor: I am publicly thanking the employees at the Lodi Department of Motor Vehicles. I showed up early one morning, only to find there was already a line at 7:45 a.m. This seemed rather ominous and I prepared for the worst.

I have to say, however, that the situation quickly turned very pleasant. One of the employees came out before 8:00 a.m., greeted us warmly and took people inside who had scheduled appointments to “get them started.” (I did not have an appointment.) As our line moved to the door and I eventually made my way inside, I noticed that the lady greeting people at the desk was polite to each customer, provided detailed information and treated each person with respect.

She was extremely patient and often helped more than one person at a time, as people were coming back up and turning in completed forms. When I got to the desk, she was understanding and calm, helping to put my nerves at ease. She was quite knowledgeable. Taking my seat and waiting for my number to come up, I thought I was in for a very long haul. Within 10 minutes though, my number was called and I went to Window 2.

The young lady there didn’t seem quite sure about what I needed and told me she was still training. The lady next to her jumped right in to help and knew exactly what to do, assisting us both while her customer was completing some information. Both were courteous and had smiles on their faces. What a great experience!

I was walking to my car by 8:30 a.m. with the form in hand and the information I needed to take care of my situation. Amazing! What an asset we have in Lodi with the team at our local DMV Office. I thank them for displaying courtesy and professionalism throughout my business transaction. I directly witnessed the actions of four employees, and all four delivered excellent service. We are blessed to have a staff that is dedicated to doing what is right and taking good care of us. WILLYS NITSCHKE Lodi

Let the feds do their job

Editor: When Arizona passed an anti-illegal immigration law explaining the constitution mandates federal protection but since the federal authorities weren't carrying out their constitutional duties stated in Article IV, Section 4 Arizona had to enact their own law to provide protection of their citizens which the federal government refused to do.

Arizona watched for years as their border went unenforced as their schools and hospitals were overwhelmed with illegals along with violent crime caused by Mexican drug cartels. So the Democrats along with the Mexican government sued Arizona for trying to protect themselves saying that feds have this authority, not the states — and won.

Now we have the federal government doing their duty protecting our borders against this invasion of illegals but now we have Democrats in California saying they don't have to follow federal law protecting its citizens in California but will become a "sanctuary state" to protect illegal immigrants putting actual citizens secondary to illegals which in itself is against the constitution. The Democratic Party has a history of making up unconstitutional laws to fit their needs like the Jim Crow laws, literacy tests, segregation, etc. When they're in power of the federal government they refuse the right of states to protect themselves and when they're not they refuse the authority for the federal government to protect its citizens.

Why be concerned? When I was in school in the 1950s and ’60s, California's educational system was the envy of the US. Now we're rated at the bottom of every area nationwide with astronomical drop-out rates even as we spend more per student than almost anyone else.

My grandson was very excited about his first day at school but he came back crying because the teacher spoke Spanish most of the time because the students didn't speak English. Here he was so excited about learning and felt more confused than ever. We pulled him out and put him in parochial school. Luckily we can afford it but to those who can't if they want their kids to be educated they've got to do it themselves. Welcome to socialism! RONALD PORTAL Lodi

We need to support president

Lodi Editor: It's very disheartening to open the local paper and see the constant barrage of negative articles on Trump reprinted from eastern papers. He does have positive accomplishments that, of course, are never reported. I'm sure someone will also accuse him of causing the horrible Las Vegas shooting.

Recently, a gunman in the Mandalay Bay, opened fire on a crowd of country music fans from the 32nd floor. There were upwards of 20,000 attendees. Fifty-eight were tragically killed and more than 500 injured. He also fatally shot himself. In the aftermath of this terrible occurrence, an attorney for CBS said she had no sympathy for these people because country music fans were mostly republicans. She was justifiably released.

An unnamed teacher also said she hoped only "Trumptards" were killed. I hope she also lost her job. Just a short while back a disgruntled Democrat opened fire on a group of ball-playing Republicans. He had his own kill list. There needs to be an end to all this. Some Democrats have openly called for Trump's assassination. Disgusting.

Trump was legally elected and we need to work with him for the betterment of our own country. He deserves the respect due the office. Congress also needs to work with him to fulfill the promises they made during the campaign or they might find themselves voted out of office next year. SONIA F. GLICK Lodi
