ELLIOT SPLITS LEAGUE MATCHES

Looking to keep its SacJoaquin Section playoff hopes alive, the Elliot Christian High volleyball team went the distance against Venture Academy in Wednesday’s Central California Athletic Alliance contest inside the Eagles’ gym.

But the Eagles came up short, as Venture Academy posted the win in five games; the final scores were 17-25, 2519, 19-25, 25-18, 15-12.

Frankie Tucker, who is closing in on the Elliot Christian volleyball program’s record in assists at 1,000, had 36 against Venture Academy, plus five kills and four aces. Bailey Correria, a junior who transferre­d to Elliot from Lodi High over the summer, had 19 kills and six digs. Correria became eligible to play last week after observing the section’s 30-day sit out transfer policy.

Other leaders for Elliot (4-6 in the CCAA, 4-7) were Kayleigh Schrader with 14 kills and four digs, and Lexie Juelch four digs and three assists.

Currently, Elliot is now in fifth place behind Venture Academy (5-5 in the CCAA). According to the section’s website — cifsjs.org — the CCAA will send four teams into the playoffs.

In Tuesday’s road contest in Tracy, the Eagles trailed 20 before winning the final three sets; the final scores were 12-25, 20-25, 25-9, 25-20, 15-7.

Tucker had 15 assists and two aces for the Eagles. Schrader had six kills, four assists and five aces. Correria had six kills and four aces.
