Lodi girls tennis blanks West

The Lodi High girls tennis team continued its winning ways on Thursday, knocking out West 9-0 in a Tri-City Athletic League road contest.

Winning in straight sets for all five singles players for Lodi (6-1 in the TCAL, 12-2), starting with No. 1 player Emma Canepa. Nikki Barajas, the Flames No. 2 player, followed, along with Johnna Schroeder, Gabi Borra and Mia Carouba.

In the doubles’ matches, Lodi’s No. 2 team of CeCe Chinchiolo-Megan Kim beat West’s Aria Jacinto-Jehanna Roldan in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. The Flames’ No. 1 squad of sisters Alyssa and Kaylee Mataga, and No. 3’s Julia Sherman-Emily Johnson won in straight sets.

Addi Stone went three sets for Tokay (0-8 in the TCAL, 3-10) in Thursday’s TCAL home match, before losing a tough one to the Trojans’ Brynne Black 5-7, 6-7 (4-7), 10-6.

Varsity boys

WATER POLO

Jack LeBaron scored three goals to help the Flames improve to 12-3 overall, and 5-3 in the TCAL with Thursday’s victory.

Brosnon Elrod, Benton Peterson, Alexander Elrod and Victor Plunkett had one goal each, while Adam Taylor had nine saves.

Lodi will play in the Jesuit Classic Invitation­al over the weekend before hosting West on Tuesday. Varsity girls Elisa Grim scored five goals and Hope Lorentzen blocked nine shots to help Lodi improve to 10-5 overall, and 4-3 in the TCAL.

Jackie Westerterp scored three goals, along with two from Elizabeth Decko and one each from Nicole Coon and Kate Baltzer.

Lodi was set to play this weekend in the James Logan Tournament in Union City, but it has been postponed due to smoke from the fires in the Bay Area. It will be played Oct. 20 and 21. Frosh-soph boys

The Flames took their first loss in league play on Thursday, despite overcoming a 3-1 deficit to tie the game 4-4. Ashton DeVries and Seth Hillstrom had two goals each, while Tucker Utley had the other. Ryan Engle led the Flames in steals.

Nate Bonham had five goals for Tokay in Thursday’s home game. Joey Del Barba and Ryan Means had three each, Eric Dr Santiago had two, and Madden Westland, Cylas Riley and Owen Canestrino one each. Frosh-soph girls

Tailiea Patino had three goals for Tokay. Sophie Smith followed with two goals, and Violet Young and Mira Rodriguez had one each.

FOOTBALL

Isaac Bishop ran in a 7-yard touchdown and finished with 84 rushing yards, but it was Lodi’s only score in Thursday’s loss. Bishop also completed four passes for 55 yards. Joel Roque had 10 tackles on defense, along with nine from Bishop and two sacks from Sam Carpenter.
