Please support events at Hutchins Street Square

-

Editor: On Friday evening, Oct. 13, 2017, my husband and I attended an absolutely delightful program at Hutchins Street Square — The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. The music was classic Tommy Dorsey and the singer they had on stage was well versed in Frank Sinatra music and performed wonderfully.

It broke my heart to see that the theater was only about 1⁄3 full. It was regretful to see such a small crowd. If I were the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, I would not want to come back to Lodi and that is unfortunate as they did an outstanding performance. If this type of attendance continues Hutchins Street Square will be hard pressed to sign up top-notch talent to perform.

What I don't understand is why these performances don't get more mention in the newspaper. If this was a wine or bike event there would have been articles in the paper talking about the event, the people coming, etc. I think it would be wonderful if the Sentinel did stories about the performances that are coming to town.

The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra had a great story about its origination and how it has continued to remain the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra over the decades. It would have gone a long way to promote the performance if the paper had run a little story on the history of the orchestra. It was only by chance that I happened to see something about the event and purchased my tickets right away.

Hutchins Street Square needs to do a better job advertising its events and the paper could help out by giving a little more support. Many people missed out on a wonderful musical performance. If we want to keep these types of programs at Hutchins Street we must support them by purchasing tickets and by attending. Don't let this jewel disappear. ORLENE DENTONE Acampo
