Día del Campesino celebrates local farmworkers IF YOU GO
On Sunday, as a band plays in the background, farmworkers will be able to get free health screenings, learn about local employment services, munch on free snacks and enjoy a performance of dancing horses.
“The day is basically a celebration, to honor the jobs that the farmworkers do for our community,” said Alejandra Marta, who helped organize the event with California Human Development.
The annual event, sponsored by First 5 San Joaquin, El Pollo Loco, Waste Management, Joe Hassan’s Western Wear, Santibañez Ag Services, Paco’s Graffix, the City of Lodi and several other local businesses and social service agencies, brings together the community at Hale Park for a day of family fun.
The TV station Entrevision will be there, along with La Tricolor 100.9 radio station, Marta said.
Along with blood pressure, diabetes and dental screenings, several vendors will be on-site with information for job hunters, about adaptive telephone services for people with hearing loss or other disabilities.
Children’s activities will keep youngsters busy while their parents or guardians take advantage of the free services.
“We’re going to have live music this year, also,” Marta said.
Along with La Indomable Banda Potrillos, horse lovers will enjoy the return of Los Amigos de a Caballo de Candelario Villalobos, the dancing horses.
