John was born in Kulpmont, Pennsylvania on January 11, 1926 to Ralph and Emma Trovinger.

John was married to Evelyn Fern Trovinger (Woock) 0n June 15, 1947; they were married 54 loving years. John and Evelyn were introduced to each other while visiting his brother, Harry Trovinger, in Auburn, California. Harry was engaged and later married to Evelyn’s sister, LaVerne. The two couples were very close and loved traveling and spending time with each other. John and Evelyn had three sons; Douglas, Rodney, and Mark.

John was retired, Air Corp Marine and served his country faithfully during World War II as a mechanic and machinist. John loved to reminisce about his days in the marine, including stories of being part of a delivery of cars to a foreign leader on behalf of Eleanor Roosevelt. He excelled at his job and many high ranking officials would refuse to fly unless Johnny looked at their planes first.

After the war, John worked as a gunner in the processing plant for General Mills and retired from the company after over 40 years of service. He was known for his many years of service with no sick days and his quick wit and generous soul. He also helped his wife at her business, Quality Health Products. He was also actively involved on the director’s board of the family company Plastaket Manufacturing. Plastaket’s main product is the Champion Juicer, created by his father-in-law, Walter Woock.

Grandchildren fondly remember their grandpa teaching them how to drive forklifts, taking them to Plastaket, and spoiling them with ice cream sundaes. They will also cherish the days of road trips with grandpa and grandma singing John Denver’s, “Some Days are Diamonds”.

His hobbies included fishing, camping, playing solitaire with his wife and grandkids, and taking his dog (Rami) for walks. He also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Reno, and Jackson to play the Wheel of Fortune slot machines with his wife and brother.

In his youth, John was known to travel with his brother Harry, back and forth from the East coast to the West coast. They would purchase a car back home from the Pennsylvania or New York area and then drive it to California to sell for profit. They then traveled back to the East coast by bus. John and his brothers all worked with their father in the coal mines in Pennsylvania and were watched by many guardian angels during those close calls when mine shafts collapsed

He was a faithful believer in God and passed peacefully with his grandchildren and son by his side, while listening to his favorite song “Amazing Grace”.

John is survived by his son, Douglas Trovinger; his daughter-in-law Trudy Trovinger; his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Terry Hieb; his sister Mildred Geisler; his 8 grandchildren, John, Heather, Lydia, Alexander, Kevin H., Christopher, Kevin B., and Heidi; his 8 greatgrandchildren, Joseph, LilyAnn, Ryan, Hope, Faith, Bennie, McKayla, Dannielle; 6 step-great grandchildren and other family and friends.
