Coffee chain still evaluating possible Galt kiosk location

- By Jennifer Bonnett

GALT — If the Oregonbased Dutch Bros coffee chain has plans of locating here, it is still at least a year and a half away, according to a company spokesman.

Still, resident interest is apparent from various Facebook posts after the company recently went online with possible news about a local location.

Interest was piqued in September when Dutch Bros Elk Grove posted a survey on Twitter asking followers where the company should locate a kiosk in Galt. Hundreds weighed in, with the majority recommending it be built on Twin Cities Road.

“As far as we are aware, they have not found a suitable location in Galt,” City Manager Gene Palazzo said.

Staff met with the Dutch Bros Elk Grove franchisee about a year ago regarding a Galt location, according to city officials.

At the time, he was in the preliminary stages of locating a site in Galt with no set timeline for opening, according to Palazzo. “The franchisee shared with us that he had two more locations in the planning stages in Elk Grove, which were first priority,” he said.

Since then, the coffee company opened its second location there in August. The first opened right off Highway 99 and Elk Grove Boulevard in February 2015.

Earlier this month, Amie Mendes, the City of Galt’s economic development manager, reached out via email to the Dutch Bros franchisee in Elk Grove for an update, but have yet to hear back, according to Palazzo.

And, nothing formal has been filed with the City of Galt.

“Nothing for Galt has come to my office yet, which means if it is a search area of ours, it is still at least a year and a half out,” spokesman Will Gahringer wrote in an email Monday.

He also encouraged residents to stay tuned to their local Dutch Bros social pages for the most up to date information.

Meanwhile, the developer of the new Galt Starbucks site has completed the shell of its building off Twin Cities Road and Highway 99, but has yet to start the interior, Mendes said.

There is no anticipated opening date for Starbucks at this time, but she estimates possibly early spring at the latest.
