A Day in the Park brings together businesses, local families

- By Kyla Cathey

On Saturday, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park will open its doors not just to campers but to the whole community for A Day in the Park.

The event, hosted by the Lodi District Chamber of Commerce, brings member businesses from chambers of commerce throughout San Joaquin County to Lodi for a day of family fun.

“Each vendor will have carnival games,” said Marina Narvarte, the membership director for the Lodi Chamber.

They’ll also be selling goods from frozen yogurt and ice cream to clothing to souvenirs and holiday gifts. Some booths will be more informational, where guests can learn about dental care, tax services or mortgages. There will also be informational booths for job seekers, Narvarte said. “It’s a variety,” she said. Jellystone will provide even more family fun. Along with half-off at the Gem Mining Experience, young visitors will have fun with face-painting, tie-dyeing, a balloonist and the park’s playground, jumping pillow, laser tag and Gaga Ball pit.

While the kids play, the parents can enjoy the dozens of vendors from Lodi, Stockton, Isleton, Galt, Tracy, Manteca and the Delta Chamber.

The Lodi Chamber decided to host the event to build connections with other local chambers of commerce and showcase Jellystone Park — a member of the Lodi Chamber — to other communities.

“They are a valued chamber member, and we appreciate them,” Narvarte said.

The park’s owners have invested millions in renovations and upgrades, she said. Since they can’t bring the park into Lodi, the chamber decided to bring Lodi — and neighboring cities — to the park.

“So it’s a get together where we can meet and greet, and at the same time build some relationships,” Narvarte said.

The community is invited to come out and have a fun time — and maybe get in a little early Christmas shopping.
