No. 2 Kansas cruises, stays undefeated
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Devonte Graham scored a career-high 35 points, Malik Newman added 17 and second-ranked Kansas ran roughshod over Toledo 96-58 on Tuesday night to extend the Jayhawks’ best start in seven years.
Svi Mykhailiuk hit five 3pointers and added 15 points for Kansas (6-0), which built a 59-30 lead by halftime and pushed the advantage to more than 50 points before coasting down the stretch.
• No. 8 Wichita St. 112, Savannah St. 66 — At Wichita, Kan.: Samajae Haynes-Jones scored a season-high 31 points to lead Wichita State.
Five other Shockers (5-1) scored in double figures against the fast-paced Tigers (2-6). Leading scorer Landry Shamet did not play in the second half after reinjuring his right ankle.
• No. 21 Xavier 76, No. 16 Baylor 63 — At Cincinnati: J.P. Macura scored 15 of his 19 points in the first half as Xavier surged ahead to stay.
The Musketeers (6-1) recovered from their first loss — against Arizona State — by controlling the boards and putting together decisive runs in each half. They never trailed after an opening 21-8 spurt.
• Purdue 66, No. 17 Louisville 57 — At West Lafayette, Ind.: Vince Edwards scored 15 points and Carsen Edwards and Dakota Mathias spurred a late run to lead Purdue in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
• California 83, Cal State Northridge 63 — At Berkeley: Freshman Darius McNeill made his first seven field-goal attempts, including five 3-pointers, and finished with 22 points as Cal broke a three-game losing streak with an 83-63 victory over Cal State Northridge on Tuesday night.
McNeill, whose previous scoring best was 18, had 16 points in the opening nine minutes and 19 by halftime, sparking Cal to a 48-30 lead. He finished 8 for 11 from the field and was 6 of 7 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Women
• No. 1 UConn 88, Nevada 57 — At Reno, Nev.: Kia Nurse scored 27 points, hitting all eight of her 3-point attempts, and Gabby Williams added 18 points in her homecoming to help No. 1 UConn beat Nevada 88-57 on Tuesday night.
It was a season-high for Williams, who was playing her first game at Nevada’s Lawlor Events Center since she her high school team to a state title in 2012. Her father, Matt, and sister, Kayla, both played basketball at Nevada.
• No. 7 UCLA 68, UC Riverside 48 — At Los Angeles: Monique Billings had 14 points and 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, and UCLA defeated UC Riverside.
• No. 10 Oregon 87, Hampton 45 — At Eugene, Ore.: Oti Gildon had career highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Satou Sabally added 18 points to help Oregon roll to a victory over Hampton.
• No. 18 Texas A&M 98, Prairie View A&M 70 — At College Station, Texas: Khaalia Hillsman had 20 points, on 8-of-12 shooting, and nine rebounds to help the Texas A&M women beat Prairie View A&M.
• No. 23 Marquette 92, Loyola-Chicago 30 — At Milwaukee: Amani Wilborn had 19 points and nine rebounds, and Marquette used a 28-1 second quarter to beat winless LoyolaChicago.
