Three Lodi swimmers break multiple Gold club records

A dozen Lodi swimmers competed for the California Gold Swim Club at the Arizona Holiday Invitation­al over the weekend in Tempe, Ariz.

Gianni Pitto, a Lodi High senior, broke a club record in the 400 individual medley that stood since Cinde Enze set it in 1972, at 4:25.66. She also broke her own club records in the 100 breaststro­ke at 1:05.66 and the 200 breaststro­ke at 2:16.76, and took down Kris Willey’s 1999 record in the 200 individual medley at 2:06.15.

She placed first in the 100 breastroke, the 400 individual medley, the 200 breaststro­ke, the 50 breaststro­ke (30.19) and placed second in the 200 individual medley.

Two other Lodi swimmers broke team records, starting with Maddie Woznick, a senior who set three records: a 2:08.35 in the trials of the 200 backstroke (Molly Jones, 2001), a 57.76 in the finals of the 100 backstroke (Krista Kiedrowski 1993) and a 51.97 in the finals of the 100 freestyle (Cheryl Anne Bingaman, 2002). She won the 50 freestyle (24:08) and the 100 freestyle, and was second in the 100 backstroke (57.76).

Rylan Stevenson, a senior, broke two club records, swimming a 21.53 in the trials of the 50 freestyle (Cody Rempfer 1999) and a 47.11 in a swim-off of the 100 freestyle (Brian Biehl 1993). Stevenson missed out on the top of the podium, but placed third in the 50 freestyle and the 50 butterfly (23.96).

Other Lodi swimmers included Melissa Celli, senior whose best finish was fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:05.80), Thomas Dondero, a senior who had a 19th-place finish in the 100 backstroke (54.68), Sam Griffith, a senior who had a 23rd-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:06.60), William Kim, a senior who had a 19th-place finish in the 100 butterfly (53.89), Julio Murguia, a senior who had a 12th-place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:47.96), Aiden Scott, a senior who had a seventh-place finish in the 50 backstroke (26.41), Emma Cecchini in the 13-14 girls division, who had a 49th-place finish in the 50 freestyle (26.78) and Katie Schwarze in the 13-14 girls division, who had a ninth-place finish in the 50 butterfly (27.99).

BOYS SOCCER Armijo 2, Lodi 1 Luis Sandoval scored off an assist from Enrique Yepez in the Flames’ non-league game on Tuesday. Contributi­ng in the game for Lodi were Richard Hererra, Edgar Lopez and Fernando Villolan.

GIRLS BASKETBALL Tokay 58, Linden 22

Chloe Boron-Trotter scored 22 points to lead the Tigers to victory on Tuesday, along with 14 points from Anessa Spradley and 13 from Katie Price.

Liberty Ranch 54, Florin 51

Ashley Kirbyson had 21 points for Liberty Ranch (5-1) in Tuesday’s non-conference home game. Olivia Nelson followed with 11 points.

Liberty Ranch 71, Johnson 36

Briley Jordet and Anastasia Contreras scored 10 points each for Liberty Ranch in Monday’s non-conference home game.

Anjolina Garcia followed in scoring with nine points, and Hawk teammates Tori Azevedo and Kirbyson had eight each. Isabel Moore and Nelson had seven points each.

Liberty Ranch had 47 total rebounds; 25 offensive and 22 defensive. Olivia Klotz had 12 boards, and Garcia and Moore seven each.

The Hawks had 16 assists; Azevedo and Giovanna Parino had five each. Liberty Ranch was also guilty of 16 turnovers. Frosh-soph

Aniyah Dean led Tuesday’s defensive effort with 13 points and 15 rebounds, along with 14 points from Mia Misasi, eight points and six steals from Simone Medeiros, eight points from Samantha Gonzalez, two points and 11 rebounds from Amara Charles, three points each from Micaela Algoso and Sunna Khan and two points from Rose Stoops.

BOYS SOCCER Frosh-soph

Jose Contreas and Brandon Razo scored two goals each for Tokay (3-0) in Tuesday’s contest at the Grape Bowl. Razo also had two assists, and Guillen one assist.

Tiger goalies Jorge Orgel and Jorge Quiroz had a combined four saves each.
