Donald Paul Kundert passed away peacefully in Lodi on December 12, 2017, at the age of 92.

He was born April 4, 1925 in Timber Lake, South Dakota, to Ed and Pauline Kundert. The family moved to Lodi in 1928. Don attended Salem School and graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1942. He worked as a clerk at the Army Depot at the Port of Stockton until entering the Army in 1943 and serving in Germany, the Philippine­s, and Japan in the 695th Engineer Base Equipment Company. He was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant in 1946 and returned home to Lodi.

He attended Stockton Junior College and in 1948 joined his father as a partner in Kundert’s Insurance. In 1965, he partnered with Jess Rolph and they operated Kundert & Rolph Insurance in Lodi until 1990, when they sold the business to MCV Insurance Producers. Don continued working for MCV until his retirement in 2014 at the age of 89, and thoroughly enjoyed his time with his coworkers there.

Don married Eleanor Katzakian on June 19, 1954, at Zion Reformed Church in Lodi, and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling together.

He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, and formerly of Zion Reformed Church where he served as an elder and deacon. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Woodbridge Country Club for over 60 years. He was a longtime member of the city’s Site Plan and Architectu­ral Review Committee (SPARC), and also served a term on the San Joaquin County Grand Jury.

His other past membership­s included the American Legion, the Lodi Rotary Club, and the Lodi Masonic Lodge, of which he was Master in 1957.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Arthur and Harold Kundert.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, of Lodi; three daughters, Pam Squires, Kim (Mark) Stults, and Kelly (David) Nuss, all of Lodi; eight grandchild­ren; 11 great-grandchild­ren; and sister-in-law, Mayvis Kundert.

Inurnment will be private. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, December 19th, at Temple Baptist Church, with a reception following. Memorial contributi­ons may be made to Temple Baptist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.

The family would like to thank the staff of Vienna Nursing Center for their care of Don during the past two and a half years, as well as the staff of Lodi Memorial Hospital in his final days.
