Lloyd Allen Mize, age 79, died on December 4, 2017 at River Fountains of Lodi, a caring and loving assisted living facility.

He was born on February 15, 1938, in Long Beach California to LeeRoy and Adelene Mize. One of eight children, his family relocated to Acampo at a young age. After graduating from Galt High School, Lloyd served in the National Guard Reserves.

On August 20, 1959, he married Wanda Evelyn Bailey. Together they raised three children. Lloyd was a union carpenter. He retired after fifty years from carpenters local 152. Lloyd had many interests throughout his life, from playing the trumpet to fishing, hunting, bowling and skin diving. But, his passion in life was always boat racing.

Lloyd was a member of the American Power Boat Associatio­n and the East Bay Boat Club representi­ng Region 11. He was always a top contender, well loved and respected by his racing family. Lloyd was seen as King of the Kilos in many small and large Runabout classes, setting many almost unbelievab­le straightaw­ay records. Lloyd also raced a full closed course schedule for many decades. His boat number 53-0 will forever be in the record books. He was inducted into The Hall of Champions in 1988. He set a total of 13 competitio­n records through the season and added those to the DMR National Championsh­ip and the Formula E National High Point Title.

Lloyd is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Wanda. A son, Lloyd Jr, two daughters, Tammy (John) Haynes, Larie (Allen) Merilles. Five grandchild­ren, Anthony (Irene) Hershberge­r, Michael (Jaime) Hershberge­r, Mike (Kimberly) Merilles, Mason Merilles, one grand daughter, Taylor, and five great grand children.

Family and friends whose lives Lloyd touched are invited to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, chat at a celebratio­n of life on Saturday, December 16, 2017, from 11-2 at The River Fountains of Lodi, Upper Activity Room, located at 311 W.
