Liberty Ranch wins tournament opener

The Liberty Ranch High girls basketball team tippedoff its annual Hawk Holiday Shootout with a convincing 71-16 win over Linden on Thursday.

Ashley Kirbyson was one of three Liberty Ranch (9-1) players who scored in double figures with 12 points. Tori Azevedo and Olivai Klotz followed with 10 points each. Ana Contreras, along with Courtney Six, Jada Hightower and Hannah Lopez, had six points each.

Moving into the winner’s bracket of the tournament, Liberty Ranch will play Rio Linda at 5 p.m. today.

Galt, which is also in the shootout, played Sierra Valley Conference foe Cordova in Thursday’s final game of the eight-team tournament. Frosh-soph girls Lodi 50, Woodcreek 21

Annette Vasquez and Shelby Yarbrough had 11 points each for Lodi in Wednesday’s non-league game. McKenzy Perkins had nine points. Lodi 42, Placer 30

Ashlee Toy had 14 points, while Vasquez and Ashley Vasquez scored six points each for the Flames in Tuesday’s contest. Freshmen Los Banos 39, Tokay 31

In the battle of the frosh Tigers at Tokay’s tournament at The Jungle on Thursday, Armani Reynolds had 15 points for Tokay, which lost in overtime. Jenny Corona had 14 points and Doonya Khan two.

BOYS SOCCER Varsity River City 2, Lodi 0

Julian Lopez, along with Flame teammates Carlos Rodriguez, Fernando Villalon and Luis Sandoval, were standouts in Thursday’s road loss in West Sacramento.
