Galt soccer too much for Lodi

In an area high school boys soccer non-league game on Thursday, Galt remained undefeated with a 4-0 win over Lodi at Walker Park in Galt.

The game was tied at 0-0 at halftime. But Galt (11-0) got its offense going against Lodi (29) by scoring four goals in the final 40 minutes of the game.

“In the first 11 minutes of the game, it should’ve been 40,” said Galt coach Dane White. “We had to get fired up a little bit. We just couldn’t put the shots away.”

Dazian Marquez had two goals for the Warriors, while teammates Arath Chavez and Jason Welch had one each.

Lodi had strong play from Richard Herrera, Adolo Sanchez and Alex Oseguera, who helped keep Galt scoreless in the first half.

Galt has two more non-conference games against Christian Brothers of Sacramento and Lincoln before starting Sierra Valley Conference play the second week of January.

BOYS BASKETBALL Varsity Liberty Ranch 81, Bear River 40

Jalen Patterson had 20 points for Liberty Ranch (8-0) in its first game at the Small School Challenge at Mesa Verde High of Citrus Heights on Thursday.

Patrick Roberts followed in scoring for the Hawks with 11 points, while teammates Chandler Garcia and Jamie Gonzalez had 10 each. Joe Lopez, BJ Perez and Chris Fielding had eight points each.

Leading 16-8 after the first quarter, Liberty Ranch increasd its lead in the second by outscoring the Bruins 2310. That led to a 39-18 halftime score.

Tonight at 7, Liberty Ranch continues action at the tournament by taking on Colfax.

Laguna Creek 73, Tokay 42

The Tigers tipped off the Lincoln Varsity Tournament with a loss on Thursday, led by 13 points from Mohammad Ibrahim. Max Starkovich followed with seven points, Victor Naters had six, Chase Ivey and Adam Johnson had four each, Anoop Singh had three, Diego Ramirez and Rogelio Herrera had two each and Michael Shoaib had one.

GIRLS BASKETBALL Varsity

Olivia Nelson had nine points for LIberty Ranch (123) in Thursday’s road loss in Roseville. Ashley Kirbyson followed with seven points, Isabel Moore five and Tori Azevedo four.

GIRLS SOCCER Frosh-soph Galt 2, Tokay 1

Tokay scored on an own goal in Thursday’s loss. Crystal Varela had five saves for the Tigers.
