STOCKTON — Construction of a stormwater collection and conveyance system in the Cooper’s Corner portion of the Acampo area is near completion, according the San Joaquin County Department of Public Works.

Cooper’s Corner is a rural community bounded by Acampo Road to the south, Harvest Road to the north, Highway 99 Frontage Road to the west, and Brandywine Road to the east.

On Dec. 13, the county completed installation of more than 5,500 feet of storm drainpipes and nearly two dozen drainage inlets. The network of pipes collects and stores local stormwater runoff. In the event of a major storm, emergency pumps will discharge excess runoff into a conveyance facility along the Highway 99 Frontage Road, north of Harvest Road. The emergency pumps will soon be replaced with a permanent and automatic pump facility, which is expected to be constructed by spring of 2018.

“I’m thankful the county was fortunate to secure grant funding for this project, and greatly appreciate that Public Works was able to complete the design and construction so expeditiously,” Supervisor Chuck Winn said.

The county also has plans to provide additional drainage and groundwater recharge facilities within the greater watershed area east of Cooper’s Corner, between Woodbridge Road and Jahant Road, in future phases.
