Planet Fitness opens Cherokee Lane location

Planet Fitness has opened its Lodi location, bringing another gym to the city and giving residents one more option for keeping their New Year’s resolutions.

The new gym opened on Dec. 14 and has already enrolled more than a thousand members, according to manager Tom Kinder.

“You’re getting a really high-end gym for a really reasonable and economical price,” Kinder said.

Planet Fitness offers two membership options, Kinder said. The basic membership costs $10 a month and includes full use of the exercise equipment at the Lodi location only.

The black card membership costs $22 a month and allows access to extra amenities, such as the use of massage chairs, tanning beds and total body enhancement machine.

Black card members will also be able to work out at other Planet Fitness locations and receive half-off water and Gatorade. Both memberships offer unlimited personal training Monday through Friday at no additional cost.

Kinder also touted the gym’s atmosphere.

“We pride ourselves on being really fanatical about the cleanliness aspect,” Kinder said. “That’s one big thing that really benefits us as well as the members, because they come in, and they see that we are maintaining a really good environment.”

The gym is equipped with 100 pieces of cardio equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, stationary bikes and total body trainers. It also has a free weights area and individual strength machines.

The gym has three rooms dedicated to certain exercises and is open for all members to use. Rooms include a PS360 CrossFit training room, a room for 30-minute workouts and a room for ab workouts and stretching.

In addition to state-of-theart equipment, the gym also has full-service locker rooms with showers and private changing areas and restrooms. Lockers are available for daily use, and members must provide their own locks.

Classes started up this week and are offered Monday through Friday.

“The classes are pretty standard. We don’t do yoga or Zumba or anything like that. They’re more of an instructor-led circuit type class,” Kinder said.

A cardio and strength circuit training class will be held in the 30-minute workout room, and abs classes will be held in the evenings. PS 360 CrossFit training classes are also offered. Class times vary depending on the day, Kinder said.

Planet Fitness plans to hold a grand opening to welcome the public to the gym, but Kinder said a date has not been determined.

The first Planet Fitness opened in 1992 in Dover, N.H., and has grown to more than 1,400 locations in the United States.
