Galt, Liberty Ranch soccer battle to tie

In their first Sierra Valley Conference boys soccer meeting at Walker Park on Friday, Galt and Liberty Ranch battled to a 1-1 tie.

Liberty Ranch (0-0-1 in the SVC, 7-3-2) scored its only goal with 15 minutes left in the second half on a penalty kick from Armando Gomez, with an assist from Damion Ochoa. Hawks goalie Trevor Arntson had 12 saves.

Galt (0-0-1, 13-0-1), too, scored its only goal in the second half.

In their last three meetings dating back to last season, Galt and Liberty Ranch have ended their games in ties.

Lodi 7, West 1

Ashley Thorpe had three goals for Lodi (1-0 in the TriCity Athletic League, 2-8) in its league opener and home game against the Wolf Pack on Friday.

Annie Musgrave, Alexandra Khoury, Johna Schoreder and Alyssa had a goal each for the Flames. Allison Bender and Schroeder had an assist each. Tokay 1, Lincoln 0 Odessy Garcia scored the lone goal in the game, with only one minute left in the game, for Tokay (1-0 in the TCAL, 6-3) in Friday’s league opener. Mia Masasi had eight saves, one of which included one at the goa line with five minutes left in the game.

BOYS BASKETBALL Varsity Liberty Ranch 80, Galt 36

Jaime Gonzalez had 30 points for Liberty Ranch (1-0 in the SVC, 16-2) and Jalen Patterson 20 in the SVC opener for both school at Warrior Gym on Friday. Chris Fielding followed with 11 points and Chandler Garcia 10.

The Hawks soared to a 20-6 first quarter lead over Galt (01, 4-7), which was expanded to 51-19 at halftime.

JuWan Couey was one of four Elliot (4-0 in the Central California Athletic Associatio­n, 10-5) players who scored in double figures, with 18 points.

Nick Figueroa, Ice Cadwell and Nathan Bond had 14 points each for the Eagles, who led 51-34 at halftime. Nate Gotgoto-Washington had eight points, Ian Malagon four and Josh Alejandre two. Isaac Bishop and Max Graves scored 12 and 11 points respective­ly for Lodi in Friday’s TCAL opener. Graves also had six steals. Hayden Hidenbrand had eight points and 10 rebounds, Stephano Casciaro seven points, Jason Berry four and Cade Passey two.

Ashley Kirbyson had 11 points for Liberty Ranch (1-0 in the SVC, 13-5) in Friday’s conference opener at home against Galt (0-1, 5-11). Isabel Moore and Ana Contreras has seven points each for the Hawks, Anjolina Garcia six and Jailyne Navarro and Courtney Six five each.

Leading scorers for Galt were Hannah Aguirre, Aurora Dulaney and Raina Saldivar with six points each.
