Lodi Middle School students ponder choices at career day

- By Lucas Nathan By Eiman Ali By Sarah McLain

This week at Lodi Middle School students got to enjoy an awesome career day with many visitors.

All the students got to hear a physical therapist and what he does to help people who were injured or born with an issue get well. After that we got to see an In-N-Out Burger manager who explained her job and her tasks as a manager.

Then I headed over to a fish biologist and that was cool to see how he helped get more fish in the ocean. Then we played a game to show how many salmon eggs survive to become adults.

Soon after we headed over to hear about an editor at the Lodi News-Sentinel and what speed they must have to get the major events out before the news reporters on TV have time to let everyone know what is happening. After he explained that we zoomed over to the science classes to hear from a nurse on her hard-earned way to get to such an awesome job. Finally we headed to our elective teacher who had a visiting ultrasound tech which was cool and interesting. As you can see, it was an awesome day.

I was not looking forward to career day at school at all. I thought it would end up being a boring waste of time and that there would be no point of coming to school that day, but I, a seventh-grader at Lodi Middle School, was wrong. I learned about a few options that I could do after college or during high school. I got to learn about many different jobs like a civil engineer, a fish biologist, a doctor, a physical therapist, working at In-NOut Burger, and even a person that works for the Lodi News-Sentinel.

I thought most of these jobs seemed very interesting and I’m definitely going to take some of these jobs into consideration. It’s a great thing we had career day at our school and I’m glad I have plenty of time to think about the job I want to do in the future.

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, Lodi Middle School held career day, where workers from all types of occupations came and spoke to our classes about what their jobs were like.

One of my favorite guests was a kind woman who worked at a local In-N-Out. When I walked into the classroom, I was taken by surprise because I would never think that working at In-N-Out would be so fascinating and intriguing. When I thought about working at In-N-Out, I never knew the great opportunities that they would offer.

The woman who was speaking to us made a powerful speech that made us feel that if we were to work at In-N-Out, we would have all of our needs covered. She had also mentioned that they would cope with your schedule if you couldn’t make it to work because of another activity. This stood out for me because I am very active, and occupied with many sports. I loved that they would be able to work around your schedule just for you because not many other companies would permit that.

While she was speaking to our class, she mentioned that the environment at the fast food restaurant was very welcoming. If you have an upbeat and friendly personality, this may be a great part-time or full-time job for you. With all of the information given to us about working at In-N-Out, I have considered working there for a part-time job while I am still busy with my school and activities. Career day was very entertaining and enjoyable.

Thank you special guests!
