Tigers’ Cooper out at state meet
Tokay High wrestler Matthew Cooper had built momentum at Friday’s CIF State Wrestling Championships.
But it didn’t last long. The 195-pound senior saw his high school wrestling career come to an end at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. Earning a first round, bye, in his first match of the second round, Cooper posted an 11-5 win over Sutter’s Max Gipson.
But in the following round, Liberty of Brentwood’s Adrian Chavez won by pin in 29 seconds into the first period. Moved into the consolation bracket, Cooper’s final match ended with a 4-0 loss to Temecula Valley’s Damien Wake.
